Underwater Electric Kites (UEK)
They're just like wind turbines, gas turbines, and hydroelectric turbines (mostly like hydro). Except that they sit underwater, need no dams, and produce cheap abundant electricity. 24/7. Ananpolis Maryland's UEKUS has a novel way to generate electricity from rivers and tides, and they call it the UEK. Apparently these Low impact hydrokinetic turbines can generate energy at between 1.8 and 2.8 cents per kW-h(!)
This is the crew submerging a set of UEKs
Now Trevor Hughes, President and CFO of ATEC Power Inc., announced this week that he is commencing pre-commercial testing of the UEKs in the Bay of Fundy, Nova Scotia. So these things are going to spead quickly!!
