don't worry, global warming is just a myth
some people just wouldn't recognize a 1 1/2" steel rebar
if it up and smacked them alongside the head!

Ok, some people, i guess, have a right to be idiots. I mean let's say your dad was also your brother and his dad was also his brother, sure, you might be as thick as your glass lenses, and it would behoove the rest of us to be kind and not too judgmental. But speaking of mental, some people just don't have that excuse, no excuse for being idiots. And i guess that's when the steel rebar test comes in handy. Because sometimes people can be idiots. And that's not stupid or dim, that's intelligent enough to use a word processor, beligerent enough to think that hubris is better than ACTUAL FACTS, and of course if you are stupid enough to live in a flood plane a second time after the waters have swept everything away, well then you deserve what you have coming... And why the vitriol, you ask? Well I just read something completely idiotic. I mean so stupid that I shake my head (and I've seen my fair share of stupid stuff in the past).

So thanks to this guy, Jonathan Loubiere, (who happens to be an LSU grad student in chemistry-- see, you can be smart and still be an idiot!) He has actually spent time and effort to write about how Global Warming is not yet Proven [sic]. No. Ferreal. This guy is in Baton Rouge LA and says that GW is a myth.

I'm impressed. See, if i was ever stuck in the middle of one of the largest hurricanes ever seen by modern man, and even when CNN (not exactly tin foil hat territory) are saying yup, it's official, Global Warming makes hurricanes get bigger and meaner, and I'm living in a place where, one year later, it still looks like a disaster zone, well i'd be pretty proud of my colossal balls to actually come out and say something so stupid. And his text looks a lot like the bile and tripe that oldschool assholes like the Global Climate Coalition (singer, michaels, lindzen et al) used to write. ((ok this guy is a dick thats for sure --What's his biggest complaint post-Katrina? That there aren't as many good music shows to go to-- But he's not savvy enough to get Exxon money for his efforts)).

Sheesh! What a tool! I mean, it's one thing to be on the dole with an oil company and spew out lies to serve your, well to serve your bank. But its another thing completely when you have absolutely nothing to gain and over 50% of the people in your neighborhood are now homeless. I mean, come on Johnathan, get some of those brain cells working together. Lastly, this little punk ends his obfuscation with this little (overused) gem: "Many of us don’t remember the 1970s articles ran in major news outlets similar the ones today, only they warned of Global cooling and a new Ice age!" OK great. 1) youre 22 fucking years old, that means you were born in '84. So dont tell me what I read in the 70s or how it was portrayed. 2) why not actually go back and look at the 'cooling school' of climatologists, and see what happened to them. did they lose their funding? and lastly 3) why not check out some climatology and see whats going on with the gulf stream about to flip. And check out how Greenland's inland ice (not the sea ice) grew by 11 Billion Tonnes last year. Cause I'll tell ya something, when you start talking about remembering times when you were not born and what lies we were being fed, while distorting the truth and helping NO ONE, y'all better not start talking about how the Ice Age Global Warmers were foolish or wrong, because I will have to defend their honor.

I think anyone who thinks they know what the weather holds is nuts. The models are still shit, the data remains amazingly sparse, people seem far too sure of what it all means.

On the other hand, the past 50 years of really nice weather is certainly over, and we may well be headed into uncharted teritory.

Heck, at least if it is caused by man driven reasons, it is probably easier to stop/reverse/control that if is is a natural cycle.

ok, i guess im 'almost' nuts. i don't profess to know what the weather holds (weather is an event, climate is a series of events). and yet i am certain that there is a climate regime change happenning. Now. Now, not in 100 years (what IPCC NOAA NCAR et all were saying 10 years ago-- of course nowadays, most are saying that 100 is actually only 10). And maybe it's because of that, and/or because the thermohaline conveyor aka gulfstream was a "mystical theory" when i was bugging princeton climatologists a decade ago and now its quantitative phenomena, not theory but real. And/or maybe its also bcause most people while talking about the Grace imaging system talk about one finding (that the greenland sea ice is melting x2 speed now)but surprisingly mum on the other finding; that the greenland inland ice especially in th ex-desert of greenland has grown by 11 billion tons of ice at the same time(!) people dont want to talk about that part because it would throw a wrench into the whole scare tactic that is being used to try to get people to act....

and of course i think it's because of that Thom Yorke and Idiotheque. Seriously if headn't sung about the ice age coming, maybe i woudln't have felt vindicated for my own hardened beliefs.. so blame Radiohead! j/k

sure, who can tell where it will be lush and where it will be dust bowl? i mean in general maybe, but certainly not in detail. but to see if we are entering a glacial period, you dont need to rely on GCMs theres also paleoclimatology and geoclimatologists and so much proxy data we can actually see what happened 120,000 years ago and thorughout the cycles... and that is why every time i see that "remeber folks, these are teh same people who told us that we were entering an ice age in the 70's: i just wanna start a bar brawl.... (why am i so millitant this week? is it because my government is killing kyoto as we type??)

When I say "uncharted teritory" I mean into realms not seen since the start of the last ice age (wider range than we have seen in the past 12000 years).

oh yeah in the past 12,000..... say goodbye to our comfy interglacial period. now, 7league i'm curious to knwo what u think... youre proably aware that the last interglacial perios ended with a spike in CO2 concentrations, right? (and it wasn't cars then, but then again who was there to put out forest fires?)

So my question to you is: do you feel that our 350+/- ppm CO2 is going to stop the coming ice age, or is it enough to build up a glacial on the north pole, stop the gulf stream and, basically start a new glacial era?

My first guess was that it was going to trigger an ice age, at the time (10 years ago) warming models predicted things like 90 degree surface temps for oceans, but they cannot go over 83, more energy than that and it all goes into cloud formation in the real world.

Now I am not so sure, all I am sure about is that the weather is going to get much worse in all senses.

And the models still don't handle clouds (or water in general) well. Not a big deal, water is only 75% of the earth surface.

And I don't think we understand the oceans, especially deep oceans, well at all.

Heck, a cargo ship losing a container of hockey gloves a few years back was very helpful for understanding more about the north pacific (it's 12,000 pieces of debries that is easy to identify and unique to going into the water at one place and time).

dude, i love you. yeah, the one thing we know is its going to be messed up.... and yeah also models... sure they get better over 10 years (and incelude ocean circulaitons now, pertty big of them) but still yeah no clouds (thats no physics, thats chemistry, son) and the GCM grid while better than 500km sq, is atill pretty huge, so they only go so far.....

and i've heard that oceans really controll everything, are slower to heat up and once they have, much harder to control..

I understand your frustration and disgust seeing someone with a high level of education arguing against global warming, especially given the situation, but please try to let out the rage with a bit less name calling!

If we want to have a chance of converting people, I think it is really important that we treat them as we would want to be treated, know what I mean?

Meh--- that's an approach, to treat as we would like to be treated. it's nice and all... and we should all love each other. But obfuscation is a crime. And at this point (as opposed to 18 months ago) no one not even the AEI or CEI are arguing that GW is real. Because they can no longer even make that claim. But also, you ought to read the book Storm World if you want to know the play by play of what is going on with regards to disinfo, misinfo, and other forms of behind-the-scenes manipulation. And then decide who to chastize.

As far as converting people, you obviously think my blog here is for somthing it is not for. This is not for people who are not sure. this is not a place to try to convert Jeezus freaks who think that global warming is just part of the rapture, as it is not a place for climate deniers to come and discuss. I am not a converter. let life convert people (just like it has muted Patrick Michaels-- who I have met, and who is an asshole). People want to be idiots, that is their role, they are dinosaurs about to go extinct or evolve. it's their choice. And if some people humiliate them, like i might have, well so much the better, afaik, I am certainly not going to invite them over for tea and crumpets and show them a slide show... hell, they're not even welcome in my house.

And if one happens to want to get a job with DOW, or Union Carbide after graduating, or you happen to be a campus libertarian or worse a campus bureaucrasher, then there is not way for me, or you to "convert" them. Life and only life will be able to do that-- and until then, in my opinion. they are to be ridiculed. That's my approach. This is my blog. I share info more than most i know (considering this is also my job), but if that doesn't leave me the room to express myself on my journal, well then what are you saying? If i neuter myself i will also neuter the flow of info. your choice. There are plenty of blogs and sites about be-nice green stuff, and if you think that Ideal Bite or Treehugger or any other site is going to convert people, well, maybe you are right, but i have yet to see it. Have you sat down with people from the Global Climate Coalition? Have you ever listened or met Fred Singer? Have you seen the bile produced from the CEI? We can either lie down and take it and be the uber right's bitch, or we can stand up and stop them in their tracks. Some people will retreat to the woods... some people will stand up & fight. which is right? who knows... we'll have to wait and see, but i surmise its a little from column A and a little from colum B, sorry if i offend you Nathan, but I fight.
