CHICAGO'S GREENGRID INTRODUCES DO-IT-YOURSELF GREEN ROOFING SYSTEM FOR HOMEOWNERS!!!

GreenGrid, a green-roof business branch of Weston Solutions, introduces an all-new "do-it-yourself" Green Roofing system perfect for homes and smaller buildings. Called The GreenGridR DIY Kit, all components are delivered directly to the home/building owner along with easy-to-follow installation instructions.

The kit includes:
==> Two-by-two-foot-by-four-inch deep modules
==> GreenGrid's specially formulated light weight soil media
==> Hearty, low-maintenance, and drought-resistant sedum plants

The "do-it-yourselfer" assembles by placing the soil media and plants into the modules. The modules are then placed directly on top of the existing roof. Although surprisingly light, the roof's structural integrity may need to be tested to make sure it can support the added weight. Often, the entire project can be completed on a Sunday afternoon.

The GreenGrid DYI Kit will be unveiled at the Garden in a City show, to be presented by the Chicago Park District, Chicago, IL, May 13-21, 2006, in the city's Grant Park. go to www.greengridroofs.com for more information (after the weekend... till then it's still veiled). But what fun!!!!

I WANT THAT ROOF.

Seriously, though, how much would a kit like that cost for an average homeowner? I can't imagine it being very cheap... I can definitely see the appeal for appartment/commercial building owners, but it probably would be a hard sell with private homeowners.

I still want one, though. If only I had a roof to put it on...

that kit will in my guess be around $10-15 a foot. Youcan find greenroof systems for as low as $6 a foot (and of course can do it yourself for copnsiderably cheaper.... (in my greenroof tag there's a company right here called ELT which has a modular green roof system that is very afffordable and pretty flyée...

butyes you will need a roof first J&S :p

flyée! i always wondered how you'd spell that.

actually 10-15 isn't as much as i'd expected. in the end, the cost is about the same as if you recovered your roof in hardwood flooring.

but so much more attractive (at least, for a roof. i have no plans to grass my living room).

i prefer the 'grotto' look for a bedroom, myself. grass is more 'family room'.
