Saw the cutest thing yesterday afternoon while walking on Queen Street, the part that is (well, was) the artsy alternative yet commercial street in toronto.. (now its pretty much mainstream stores lots of clothes and restaurants). And what do i see at the edge of a parking lot?
this great --almost camouflage-- green DIY windmill. I just had to rush up and ask the guy standing by it if he knew who lived there. and of course it was the guy hisself! Meet my latest hero: Tyler Heal

so, it may not be able to power his house.. and so far there's just a 6V battery on the end of the contraption, but i think it's beautiful! (no really, its got a green speckled surface on the blades, and you can just feel that it was made with love) ...And i'm not the only one. Tyler --to whom this windmill is only the first of a long and happy future making windmills-- says that there are many serendipitous results; he's meeting all his neighbors (who all seem not only to like it very much, but also express a common interest and concern about the planet), and he and his crew have gained much momentum from all the positive feedback, ready to conquer even greater projects. I have a strong suspicion that this young eco-urban hipster will be living off the grid (or feeding it;-) in no time! |
