Finally! Something to do with all the BS they've been hewing at us
....breaking news from The UK Register, Professor Ann Christy and her colleagues at Ohio State University have developed a fuel cell that runs on cow patties. Well actually the fuel cell gets it's juice from electrons that are freed while bacteria is eating the cellulose in the cow's donation to science. Its not an enormous amount of electricity, and the thing isn't as small as other fuel cells (think of a cylinder 30cm tall, 15cm in diameter, full of ex-cowfood), but it's just at an experimental stage.... if it works with cows it probably works with any animal waste so long as there's enough cellulose, so as long as you are a vegetarian you may one day have one of these fuel cells in your bathroom! Now that'll be real people power! |

| wow! it must be waste-fed fuell cell day today.... |

this just in!! yet one more waste fed fuel cell is underway i just received this news-release a few hours ago... and after the last post i felt it necessary to show that this isn't just happening down on the farm, it's happening everywhere.... In Japan they are going to be using this thing:
Which BTW is the smallest unit made by FuelCell Energy of Danbury Ct, their biggest looks like this:
Anyway, the 250Kw unit is going to be powering a hospital, a school and an apartment building in a city on Japan's west coast. And the unit is going to be fed waste from a food processing plant! It reminds me of "Back to the Future" when the Doc comes back from the future and needs garbage to feed his DeLorean-- ( Read more... ) |

| Commander Tuttle speaks out from the Day Star! |
[Sep. 8th, 2005|07:11 am] |
about a week ago i wrote something about how there is almost no SoG-Si (solar grade silicon) available and it's causing quite a few problems in the PV Solar industry
...well one of the shinning "stars" out there is DayStar Technologies they make silicon free solar panels. Some of their products are simply amazing and a nice new change from PV Panels which haven't changed much since the 70's. So I was pleased as punch to read a letter DayStar CEO, John Tuttle (no, not Buttle) wrote this week to his investors (and you aren't one yet... after you read this you may well be)
Fully acknowledging the SoG-Si dearth, he point to how this is amazing for his company and products. He mentions a deal with the German solar park builder Blitzstrom GmbH for 30MW of panels, a Chinese company who is picking up 500Kw (that's +5000 panels), and they're ramping up their production facilities as well... planning on producing 100MW/yr in their "Gen-III plant" (?)
Great news all around! Something to be happy about.... and we have this guy, John Tuttle to thank (no not the political looking guy in red tie, the happy guy), Thank you commander Tuttle of the DayStar!

Wow. Bruce didn't edit a word. weird. For those of you who don't know-- Bruce Stirling is The Man when it comes to green design (he pretty much started the entire movement), futurism, and especially climate-change activism.
Bruce, who co-wrote cyberpunk gospels with that Gibson guy, who spoke my most favorite quote; "the future is already here, it's just badly distributed," and who writes some of my favorite scifi (actually, the only scifi i read-- and probably because climate change is always either a major or minor character), and who has a book called:
