first there was the eco-home, then the eco-mall, then the eco-complex.....
now say hello to the new eco city!
..it seems a Brittish engineering & design firm called Arup has signed a contract with Shanghai Industrial Investment Corporation (SIIC) to plan the world's first sustainable "eco-city" - at Dongtan, just outside of Shanghai. This new city (illustrated above, "at night") will be 3/4 the size of Manhattan, take great pains to conserve the nearby wetlands, use a variety of green energies and be as "Carbon neutral as possible." I guess i may have to wait a while to go see it, so far there isn't even a dig date ...but regardless, i dig it, and think they would be foolish if they didn't bring along Ken Yeang for the ride.. this is going to be fun!!! |
