Just read in Wired online the weirdest story to come out of the Hurrican Debacle. And I am going to bring up the bright side first, there is a chance that this is totally benign and its goingto be used only for the good reasons. There is that chance...

According to Wired, company called HPV Technologies is going to "ship some units of their product to areas hit by Hurricane Katrina, so authorities can use the tools for crowd control, aid distribution and rescue operations." HPV has three sizes of Magnetic Acoustic Device, or MAD as they like to call them, and like I said, the bright side is that these weapons are capable of aiming sound precisely for thousands of feet -- like the sonic equivalent of a laser, or spotlight.. so they can broadcast to survivors that help is on the way... Broadcasting alerts and instructions can be amazingly helpful in this crisis. It just makes the hairs on my neck stand up when I hear them talking about using it as well for crowd control. And when they showcase it before shipping the unis off, they show how it can beam out the sounds of gunfire, heavy metal, and magnetic pulses...and how a subject, when at close range in MAD's sonic path the sound can be excruciating. I really didn't think we'd see homeland security trot this out on the poor and homeless in old-new orleans... Maybe Kanye West is right...
