There's a new kid in town....
greenoptions
There's a new blog! Just went public today called GreenOptions and it would be really nice if y'all went over there and gave 'em a gander.... to be honest my friend Michael has been sending me snippets of this site-- and background for a few weeks now and it is something. It will grow into something extra special over the weeks, months and years to come... so get used to it!

It has some serious B & C-Listers from the green blogsphere writing and creatin it! Including Jeff Sustainablog, Shea MuseingsofanEcoEnterpreneur, GroovyGreen Michael, EcoGeek Philip, EcoRazzi/GreenerMiami Rebeca, and a host of others.. so perhaps they are aiming to break into Treehugger/WorldChanging/Grist Territory? Will have to wait and see.....

Cryptic Moth In Flight [Apr. 24th, 2006|04:35 am]

...from wedding dresses made with plastic bags,
to the best and worst that plastic has to offer...

OK I know I've told you about my buddy Ian before. Not only have I been proud as punch by his antics over the years (way back a million years ago we had a production company together, but that's a different story). But I am now going to put on my cheerleader costume and bring it on for him, as his latest really deserves some rah-rah rahing! Yes, this is the dood i hinted about a while back in a post here when he left Discovery Channel's Daily Planet. But his new journey is going to be even more amazing! He's now traveling around the world with a very talented editor, shooting & chopping videos to assemble the Mother of all Plastic Documentaries! He's got quite an agenda here, not to protest and just show you the bad, but the good, why we needed plastic, and then of course the hundreds of eco solutions that there are for plastics.

And of course, for your reading pleasure, he's even started a blog, charting the journey ....

So hats off to Ian and Gad, I am going to write up about them whenever something really stands out, but be sure to check out the blog and cheer them on. In uphill eco battles, allies always make it seem easier to cross the line... Plus he writes really well and has a great sense of humor, so laugh, cry and check out the Cryptic Moth in Flight

...and just in case you were wondering, this is a cryptic moth:

how could I not??? [Apr. 6th, 2006|04:10 am]

I <3 Eco Chick

ececec
no seriously, how could I not? OK sure in a way, it's a blog to get away from blogs like this one (you know, boy-centric green geek gadgetry and politics) as well as the Mom-centred women's green blogs (if you don't have a baby, do you really care about organic nappies?). And they have created a great space (boys can read it too), funny, poignant and of course, with smashingly good taste! (boys ought to read it, actually).

As they say, their team "includes a model who has a degree in entomology, an alternative health freak who’s used herself as a guinea pig, a science nerd, a news junkie and a Barcelona-based expat; the site is run and hosted by an anarchist (and "anti-zionist zionist") webmaster. Today’s chicks want to know what’s going on, and want to laugh." They make me laugh, too, i mean forexampe, what a cheeky title to show off Rawganique's new undies? These chicks are hot (and i mean that in the best of ways)!

Never say Jamais..... [Apr. 2nd, 2006|09:36 am]

Jamais Cascio bids adieu to the WorldChanging scene....
jamais
Well change is the one constant, right? But i am still a little saddened to know that I will no longer be able to read Jamais's ideas whenever I want simply by clicking over to World Changing. No need to be sad, because this guy is not going away, but he left a note this weekend over at the WC saying so long and thanks for all the fish, and I will certainly miss this guy (of course with books and god knows what else he\s had on the back burner, I'm sure we will see him more and more...
jamais
And it's not like WorldChanging is going anywhere. Sure, he's amazing, but so is alex, and dawn, joel makower, the whole team.. so we still have that. And who will replace the daily scribings? Well, the new managing editor is none other than Sara "inhabitat" Rich, someone who not only knows her stuff like nobody's business, but walks her talk, even teaching people how easy it was for her to go biodiesel!. So, let's all be warm and welcoming to Sara!
sara
Make us proud~~ nay, make Jamais proud, Sara! Personally I know that world changing will still be one of my favorite sites for a long time to come... and welcome the new managing editor!! But, Jamais, I'll miss ya, thanks for the amazing bounty of information!

...just found this blog and i like i like i like!!
GJ
Hey i just read a great post. A kinda philosophical look at what is green. And it made me think of linking it, cause s/he blogger raises both some good questions and then has some great answers, about our collective and the efforts we make to bring about the world we want. I think you ought to go read it. The blog is called GreenJeans: handmade for conscientious living and no, i'm sure it's not by Mr. Greenjeans up there ..but h/she has no pics, so thats the best I can do. Anyway, go read it and give greenjeans props!

Makower on Cascio [Feb. 6th, 2006|10:14 am]

just a little note that Joel Makower has two really great articles in WorldChanging today; one on flexifuels and one, a wrap up on Davos. Both great! No room for Jamais' latest on mashups, but I'm sure we'll get more of those soon...

DAMOCLES [Jan. 24th, 2006|07:17 am]

"Developing Arctic Modelling and Observing Capabilities
for Longterm Environmental Studies"

DamoclesDamocles

OK it's no secret that i love WorldChanging, and today's article by Jamais cascio on DAMOCLES is a perfect example of why-- not only does he show us this amazing new tool but he brings it up in the light of MashUps and that just rocks! MashUps as you probably know, used to be audio and video collages where two predominant cultural artifices (say, a Madonna song and a song by Young Buck) get spliced and mixed together to create a synthesis of the two in a new and funny way... Well the MashUp Jamais is talking about is a little different, but amazing!! He brings our attention to DAMOCLES, a project by the Technical University of Denmark to provide compelling and useful information on the effects of climate change on Arctic ice. DAMOCLES adds satellite and ground-level sensor data to Google Earth polar maps, providing daily-updated readings of ice motion and thickness. Wow! so you can now see whats happening in real time (almost, you can see the Total ice concentration image, 3-day ice drift vectors from Global Monitoring Mode data of ESA's ENVISAT ASAR, Location and drift track of the Russian North Pole 34 manned ice drift station, and Location of a number of drift buoys in the Arctic region. Most of these buoys are deployed as part of the International Arctic Ocean Buoy Project. Updated daily, Data supplied by the AARI (Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute) in St. Petersburg. ).

Love it!!! forget video games, this is the real deal.....

awesomeness from WorldChanging! [Jan. 12th, 2006|10:20 am]

Is it any wonder why world changing is such a kick-ass site? Today the eloquent Jamais Cascio has a great piece on wholly earthy Stuart Brandt and his superb performance at the Global Business Networks get-together this week as well as a really insightful post about the possible coming ice age, and moving beyond CO2 mitigation to really dealing with what's coming in the near future
